The University of West London picked up the top prize at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2017.

The institution took home the Outstanding Leadership and Management Team title, recognising the success of its Ambition 2018 action plan in driving up performance in key indicators such as graduate employment, student satisfaction and financial performance.

The awards judges said that West London was an excellent example of “a committed and enduring leadership team working effectively with its board, staff and students”.

There were two wins for the University of Gloucestershire, which was victorious in the Outstanding Financial Performance and the Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team categories.

The University of Strathclyde was another double winner, being named Workplace of the Year and topping the Outstanding Strategic Planning Team category.

Other winners included the University of Essex, for Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year, and the University of Nottingham, for International Strategy of the Year.

The ceremony for the awards, affectionately known as the Thelmas, was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London and hosted by the comedian Bill Bailey. The awards were sponsored by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.
